Sold honestly, leather has two behaviours to know before you order forty of them: it records — a hard pen stroke on a single sheet can leave a ghost line, which patina fans love and minimalists do not — and it dislikes heat, so a hot mug belongs on a coaster, not the hide. PU shrugs off both and costs less; the trade is that it ages by wearing rather than by improving.

The two-jobs rule still applies underneath: a suede or grippy backing keeps the pad still on polished desks, and the pad ships flat, never rolled — leather remembers a roll the way it remembers a pen.
